British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) is a provincially recognized organization focussed on establishing and maintaining the highest standards of competence and ethical compliance among practicing counsellors in BCACC. Please feel free to visit their website www.bc-counsellors.org . Here you will find a tool for finding counsellors in your area that suit your needs, as well as contact information for BCACC staff.

North Shore:

It is important for families to be aware of the wide variety of resources available to them in their communities. North Shore Community Resources is a valuable central hub that can direct residents of Vancouver’s North Shore community (City & District of North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Lions Bay, and Bowen Island) to connect with organizations that can appropriately address their unique situations and needs. Click here for their website: www.nscr.bc.ca

Similarly, the North Shore Youth Services Directory provides information about support resources for youth, young adults and their families. Issues such as mental health, abuse, suicide, bereavement, legal troubles, family violence, drugs/alcohol, sex, disabilities, gender/sexuality, young parenthood, youth homelessness, and bullying are given specific links to resources and contact information for support. See the “Big Questions” link on their website: www.nsyouth.ca

For families and individuals who are new to Canada and to the North Shore, North Shore Multicultural Society is an organization that provides support and resources to help transition to your new home. They have a variety of programs that address cultural transition, learning English, finding work, volunteering, as well as programs focussed on helping youth make connections in their new community. Please see their website: www.nsms.ca

The resources offered here are by no means exhaustive of those offered in the region, and are provided as good starting-points for those seeking further support.
